What does it take to be the world's fastest human being under his or her own power? That is what we at EricksonRacing are attempting to find out.
The record is currently held by Canadian Sam Wittingham with a speed of 81 mph. The course is a unique stretch of road in Battle Mountain, NV, that is considered level by the rules yet is high enough in altitude to benefit from reduced air density.
The bike that Sam used for the record, the Varna Diablo 2, was designed by Georgi Georgiev and has the rider in a recumbent position. An aerodynamic shell of carbon fiber and kevlar both protects the rider and provides the minimum air resistance.
The event is being held from September 15-20, 2008. This year the event is combined with the final running of the DeciMach competition which we will also compete in.
I hope to use this website to inform people about the competition and our project.
