Reno Gazette-Journal Article

From Media

Today (10/1/08) the Reno Gazette-Journal published an article about my adventures at Battle Mountain.

A quick update.

As Battle Mountain 2008 rapidly approaches I am making final preparations to the vehicle.

I am very pleased and excited to announce my support crew.

I met Bill, shown below, at the PIR Human Power Challenge with his WAW electric assist velomobile. Bill is an active member of the Oregon Human Vehicles (OHPV).

Volunteers Needed!

As the Battle Mountain event approaches I need to recruit some volunteers.

What I need:
It seems likely I will need help from three people each day of the event. I am working on reducing the number, but that is what the vehicle currently requires. During launch two people support the vehicle while one person tapes. After that one person launches and one person drives the chase vehicle.

What I can offer:
Volunteer for me, and all your wildest dreams will come true. Hey, it worked for Pedro. Maybe not your wildest dreams but you will get a super cool Team Varnator T-shirt.

Hour Records Falling

There was a flourish of activity in the international hour record category's recently. Good job everyone for the excellent results.

Congratulations Damjan Zabovnik for the world 1-hour distance record at 87.109 km.

From www.eivie.com
"Dekra Test Oval, Germany; Damjan + Eivie II set the world 1-hour distance record: 87.109 km. Due to very humid air and consequently fog on the windshield, Damjan was fighting with visibility for more than half of hour, while speed was dropping step by step from 94 km/h down to 82 km/h."

Back from Hellyer Park Velodrome HPV fun day

I am back from the HPV fun day at Hellyer Park Velodrome in San Jose. I last attended the event in 2002 with "Three Legged Monkey". This time I attended with Varnator.

Richard took a great photo of the Varnator streamliner in action.

I added a Picasa album of photos from the Human Power Challenge at PIR.

PIR is a go.

This year I am finally going to the Human Power Challenge at Portland International Raceway (PIR) to race Varnator. I have been trying to go the the event which is held annually on memorial day weekend for years but have not yet attended. The event itself is historic in nature(for us HPV geeks) as the place where Matt Weaver debuted "Cutting Edje" and out raced Freddy Markham and "Gold Rush."

This year I hope for a fun and fast event and everyone raves about the new, "Smooth as Butta" pavement.

ASME HPV Competition

I added some pictures of the first day of competition to my Picassa site.

ASME HPV Competition comes to Reno

This weekend the University of Nevada, Reno is hosting the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Human powered vehicle (HPV) competition. This week the mechanical engineering students lead by Scott Waters are putting the final touches on UNR's entry into the competition. Their entry named "Battle Born" is a carbon fiber/kevlar semi-monoque trike. For more information about the UNR team, check out their website: http://web.me.unr.edu/hpv/
